We hit 1000 mile mark and celebrated with a sparkling cider on Wellington harbour as our budget doesn’t stretch to champers anymore.
The cider was brewed from the apples we didn’t get to pick in Hawkes Bay as the fruit season had come early so instead of hard labour we pootled around the wine trails and art deco buildings on our bikes instead.
From Napier we headed for Wellington along country roads where sheep congested the roads instead of cars. 200 miles in 4 days with a stay on a farm and dinner of freshly slaughtered lamb, camp on a beach, camp in a pub garden and a rather creepy village domain with a pestering peacock.
We’ve spent few days in Wellington the last stop of our North Island cycle tour the culturally cool capital visiting musuems, art galleries, beaches and attempting to ride quad bike on a farm.
South Island tomorrow which we’ve been promised the best is yet to see!
